# Permissions & Limits

Asagi separates **dashboard access** from the Discord permissions the bot needs to perform actions.

A person may be allowed to configure a feature in the dashboard while Asagi itself still lacks permission to carry out that feature in Discord.

### Dashboard Access

A server can be managed in the dashboard by:

* the **server owner**;
* members with Discord **Administrator**;
* members whose role is configured as an **Additional Bot Master Role**.

Only the server owner and Discord Administrators can change Additional Bot Master Roles. A user who only has Bot Master access cannot grant or revoke Bot Master access.

### Role Hierarchy

Discord role hierarchy applies whenever Asagi assigns, removes, or moderates roles and members.

For role actions:

* Asagi needs **Manage Roles**;
* Asagi's highest role must be above the role it needs to manage;
* bot-managed and integration-managed roles cannot be assigned like normal roles.

A dashboard user can also be restricted from selecting roles at or above their own highest role where Discord hierarchy applies.

### Common Bot Permissions

The exact permissions depend on the feature.

| **Manage Messages**                         | Auto Moderation deletion and message cleanup                                       |
| **Manage Roles**                            | Reaction Roles, Interactive Message role actions, temporary roles, automatic roles |
| **Manage Channels**                         | Features that create or modify channels                                            |
| **Moderate Members**                        | Timeout actions                                                                    |
| **Kick Members**                            | Kick actions                                                                       |
| **Ban Members**                             | Ban actions                                                                        |
| **Connect**                                 | Music and voice features                                                           |
| **Speak**                                   | Music playback                                                                     |
| **Mention @everyone, @here, and All Roles** | Messages that intentionally use restricted mentions                                |

Asagi does not need every permission in this table for every feature. Give the bot the permissions required by the features you use.

### Free and Premium Limits

These are the main account-level feature quotas currently enforced by the dashboard.

In-voice Temporary Roles uses the same limits on Free and Premium servers:

* up to **25 targets** per server;
* up to **25 roles** per target.

### Premium-only Features

An active Premium bonus is required for features such as:

* recurring Reminders;
* Birthday Reminders and Birthday Postcards;
* Anonymous Comments;
* Love Rooms;
* advanced Private Rooms features such as additional Control Panel styles, Reserve Categories, and Owner Profiles;
* advanced Starboard features such as threads and role assignment;
* Bot Customization;
* music playback.

### Message and Embed Limits

Discord limits the amount of content that can be sent in a single message.

The Embed Editor applies these limits while you build a message.

### Interactive Component Limits

Interactive Messages follow Discord component limits:

* up to **5 component rows** in one message;
* up to **5 buttons** in a button row;
* each select menu uses a full row;
* up to **25 options** in one select menu.

### When a Limit Is Reached

The dashboard prevents creating additional items when a hard quota has been reached.

If a Premium server returns to Free, Premium-only features or values above Free limits can become unavailable to edit or use until Premium is restored or the configuration is brought back within Free limits.
