# FAQ

### How do I configure Asagi?

All server settings are configured through the [**Asagi web dashboard**](https://asagi.xyz/dashboard).

Open the dashboard, select your server, choose a feature from the sidebar, change its settings, and save.

Discord slash commands are used for user actions and utilities, not as the primary server-settings interface.

### Who can manage a server in the dashboard?

Dashboard access is available to:

* the server owner;
* Discord Administrators;
* members with an Additional Bot Master role.

Only the owner and Administrators can change the Additional Bot Master role list.

### Does Asagi need the Administrator permission?

Not every feature requires Administrator.

Asagi needs the specific Discord permissions required by the features you use — for example **Manage Roles** for role assignment, **Manage Messages** for message deletion, or **Connect** and **Speak** for music.

See [**Permissions & Limits**](/help-and-reference/permissions-and-limits.md) for the common permissions.

### Why can't I select a role?

The role may be:

* at or above your highest role;
* managed by a bot or Discord integration;
* no longer available on the server.

Even after a role is selected, Asagi's own role must also be above it before Asagi can assign or remove it.

### What is a Bot Master?

An Additional Bot Master role gives trusted staff access to the Asagi dashboard without giving them Discord's Administrator permission.

Bot Masters can configure Asagi features but cannot add or remove Bot Master roles unless they are also the server owner or an Administrator.

### Do Embed Message templates update everywhere automatically?

Features that remain **linked** to a saved template use the current template content. Supported published panels such as Interactive Messages and Reaction Roles are also synchronized when the linked template is updated.

Messages that you manually publish from **Embed Messages** are standalone Discord messages. Editing the template later does not automatically edit those standalone messages.

### Can I use variables in every message?

No. Variables depend on the context of the feature sending the content.

For example, Birthday messages have birthday variables, Interactive Messages can expose changed roles, and Private Room names have member/server variables.

Reaction Roles messages do not have runtime member variables.

See [**Variables**](/help-and-reference/variables.md) for the full compatibility table.

### Why does a variable show `-`?

The variable is supported, but the value is not available for that member or event.

Use a fallback when you want different text:

```
{{member.nickname || "{{user.username}}"}}
```

If the variable itself is unsupported by that feature, use one of the groups listed for that feature on the [**Variables**](/help-and-reference/variables.md) page.

### How does Premium work on servers?

A paid subscription gives your account a number of **Premium bonus slots**.

Open **Premium → Bonuses** and choose which eligible servers receive those slots. A server has Premium while one of your active bonuses is assigned to it.

### Can I move Premium to another server?

Yes. Remove one of your own active bonuses from the old server, assign the freed slot to another eligible server, and save.

There is currently no transfer cooldown.

### What happens if a server loses Premium?

The server returns to Free availability and limits.

Premium-only settings that already exist can become unavailable to edit or use while the server is Free. Reassigning an active Premium bonus restores Premium access.

### Are recurring Reminders available on Free?

No. Recurring Reminders require Premium.

Free servers can have up to **5 active reminders** scheduled up to **30 days** ahead. Premium increases those limits to **50** active reminders and **730 days**.

### Which timezone do Reminders use?

Recurring Reminders use the server timezone saved with the reminder.

Set the correct timezone in [**Server Settings**](/getting-started/server-settings.md#time-zone) before building recurring schedules. If you later change the server timezone and want an existing recurring reminder to follow it, open and save that reminder again.

### Why didn't Asagi send me a DM?

Discord can prevent a bot from opening a DM with a member because of that member's privacy settings or other Discord restrictions.

When a feature can also send to a server channel, consider using the channel delivery option instead.

### Is music available on Free servers?

No. Music playback currently requires an active Premium bonus on the server.

### Can I restore settings after removing Asagi from a server?

For eligible Premium servers, Asagi can keep recoverable server configuration for up to **30 days** after the bot is removed so it can be restored when Asagi is added again.

Some member-provided personal data is excluded from this recovery.

### Where should I look when something fails?

Start with [**Troubleshooting**](/help-and-reference/troubleshooting.md).

Also check dashboard notifications: Asagi can surface failures caused by deleted resources, missing permissions, and other Discord-side problems.
