# Starboard

Starboard highlights popular community messages by copying them to a dedicated channel after they receive enough reactions.

Everything on this page is configured from **Dashboard → Community Interaction → Starboard**.

### Set Up Starboard

1. Open **Starboard**.
2. Turn **Active** on.
3. Choose the **Channel** where Starboard posts should appear.
4. Choose the Starboard emoji or keep the default ⭐.
5. Set the **Star Limit** — the number of valid reactions required before a message appears on Starboard.
6. Configure any optional behavior you want to use.
7. Save your changes.

The reaction limit can be set from **1 to 25**. The default is **3**.

### How Starboard Works

Asagi watches the configured Starboard emoji on regular text-channel messages. When the number of valid reactions reaches the configured limit, the message is copied to the Starboard channel.

The Starboard entry updates as the reaction count changes. If the count falls below the required limit, the Starboard entry is removed.

Reactions from bots are not counted. The original message's author is only counted when **Self-Reaction** is enabled.

Messages already containing embeds are not processed by Starboard, and messages in the Starboard channel itself are ignored.

### Starboard Options

The main behavior switches are:

| Option                 | What it does                                                                           |
| ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Show Jump Link** | Adds a link back to the original Discord message |
| **Self-Reaction**      | Counts the original author's Starboard reaction                                        |
| **Automatic Reaction** | Automatically adds the configured Starboard emoji to eligible messages |
| **Attachment Request** | Only allows messages with an attachment to qualify for Starboard |
| **1 image — 1 embed** | Displays additional images as separate embeds instead of grouping attachments as links |

**Automatic Reaction** requires Premium.

### Custom Emoji

Use **Set Custom Emoji** to replace the default star with another standard or custom emoji.

The selected emoji becomes the reaction Asagi watches for and the symbol shown with Starboard reaction counts.

### Ignore Channels

Enable **Ignore Channels** when some channels should never contribute messages to Starboard.

Select the channels you want to exclude and save the changes. Reactions in those channels are ignored by the Starboard system.

### Assign Roles

**Assign Roles** is a Premium feature that rewards the author of a message after it reaches a separate reaction threshold.

1. Enable **Assign Roles**.
2. Select one or more roles.
3. Set the **Reaction Limit for Role Assignments** from **1 to 25**.
4. Save your changes.

When the message reaches that threshold, Asagi adds the selected roles to the original message author. These roles are not automatically removed if the reaction count later drops.

Asagi needs **Manage Roles**, and its highest Discord role must be above every role it needs to assign.

### Create Threads

**Create Threads** is a Premium feature that creates a public discussion thread when a new message is added to Starboard.

You can configure:

* the thread name, up to **50 characters**;
* an optional first thread message;
* a custom message or one of your saved Embed Messages templates;
* whether that first thread message should be pinned.

If the Starboard entry is later removed because its reaction count falls below the Starboard limit, its Starboard thread is removed as well.

### Attachments

Starboard can preserve attachments from the original message. The first attachment is shown on the main Starboard embed when possible.

With **1 image — 1 embed** enabled, additional images are displayed in separate embeds. Without it, attachment links are included with the copied message instead.

If **Attachment Request** is enabled, messages without attachments do not qualify for Starboard even if they receive enough reactions.

### Permissions and Troubleshooting

If messages do not appear on Starboard, check that:

* **Active** is enabled;
* the selected Starboard channel still exists;
* Asagi can view and send messages in that channel;
* the message is not in an ignored channel;
* the correct emoji is being used;
* the reaction count reaches the configured limit;
* **Attachment Request** is not excluding a message without attachments.

For **Automatic Reaction**, Asagi must also be able to add reactions in the source channel.

For **Assign Roles**, check **Manage Roles** and Discord role hierarchy.

For **Create Threads**, Asagi needs the permissions required to create and manage public threads, send the optional thread message, and pin it when pinning is enabled.

If a configured Starboard channel or role becomes unavailable, the dashboard can surface a notification for the affected feature.
